ISACCD representatives from each geographic region were asked for a short list of major investigators in their region whose primary research focus is congenital heart disease in adults. A search for the submitted authors is performed and then restricted to those articles relating to heart disease. Animal studies and those articles relating primarily to infants and children are then selected out for the final list. Some suggested investigators have not been included in the automated query, usually because a significant portion of their publications are not directly related to adult congenital heart disease or because their name results in "falsely positive" citations, often because of an unrelated author that bears a similar name.
